Portals / Designing Portals¶
The System and Portal Administrators also have the ability to modify the way a Portal is viewed and how it operates, the type of changes the Portal and System administrators can make are far greater than changes that can be made using the personalization options.
To design a portal¶
- Create a new portal or navigate to an existing portal
- Scroll to the bottom of the portal page
- Click Design Mode.
Notice that a set of new links will appear in the bottom of the portal page.
When you go into the design mode, a copy of the existing portal is made. The changes you are about to make to the portal will not apply to the existing portal until you release your changes.
Design Mode options¶
Change Layout¶
Click on this link to switch to "Layout" mode. In this mode, you will be able to drag portal boxes around. You may also show or hide portal gadgets in this mode.
Add New Gadget¶
Click on this link to display the Add new Gadget window. In this window, you can select from a list of built-in gadgets to add to your portal.
Edit Portal Header¶
Change or Edit the portal title, description, portal logo and select which tabs should be visible.
Portal Resources¶
In order to include images on Portals, the image files will initially need to be made available as portal resources.
To add or upload a new image file
- Click Portal Resources
- Select New / Update Resource.
- Browse to the appropriate image file and click the Upload button.
To delete or remove an unwanted picture file
- Go to the Action column on the far right hand side and click on the Delete Resources button.
Rollback Changes¶
Allows for changes made to the portal to be reversed.
Note
If your changes have been Released then the Rollback Changes function will not work.
** To Roll back changes:**

Click Rollback Changes.
You will be prompted with the following message. "Are you sure you wish to Rollback changes? OK or Cancel"

Click OK
Release Changes¶
When editing a Portal its status will be set at [In Design] any changes that have been made will not be visible to MAGIQ users until the Release Changes button has been pressed.
Note
You may close and re-open MAGIQ at any time and the Portal will remain [In Design]. Any changes made to the portal will not be lost whilst it is [In Design].
Clicking Release Changes is an additional option of Reset User Personalisation Settings check box; this only applies when Personalisation is allowed on the Portal. If the Reset User Personalisation Settings check box is not checked then it will reset all changes to the last known settings. If this is checked then the changes will be released to all users.
Note
If personalisation is not allowed on the Portal then leaving the Reset User Personalisation Settings Checked or Unchecked will not make any difference, all changes will be released.
To finish click OK
Return to Portal¶
Allows the user to return to the Portal in standard view, the Design Mode options will no longer be visible, any changes you have made which have yet to be released will be accessible by pressing the Design Mode button.
Navigate to an existing portal¶
- Navigate to the Control Panel
- Select a portal
- Click Go to the Portal from the left menu
