Security / Introduction¶
MAGIQ Documents provides for a very powerful and flexible security environment. Security can be administered at various levels (Library, Folder and Document).
MAGIQ Documents' security is very similar to Microsoft Windows security, with a few exceptions.
The action you are performing must be allowed in all three areas before MAGIQ Documents will allow that action to happen.
For example, if you want to delete a document. The folder you are deleting the document from must allow document deletions and you must also have delete rights assigned in the library policies. If the folder allows deletions but the library policy doesn't, you will not be able delete the document. If the library policy allows deletions but the folder doesn't, you will not be able to delete the document.
Note
The System Administrator user (sysadmin), MUST have access to all libraries, folders and documents.
Levels of Security¶
Library Level Security¶
The first level of MAGIQ Documents security is at the library (root-level folder) level.
Libraries are isolated environments in which a group of users can work, collaborate and produce documents. Only the members of a Library can navigate inside document libraries or even see that they exist.
In addition to membership requirements, library policies also determine a set of rules in which users can perform certain actions.
For more information on this topic, refer to Library Policies.
Folder Level Security¶
The second level of MAGIQ Documents security is at the folder level. Access to folders within a library is subject to Folder Security.
Document Level Security¶
The third level of MAGIQ Documents security is at the document level.
Access to documents within folders is subject to Document Security.
Apply permissions to Libraries, Folders and Documents.¶
In order to see, or even know the existence of, a library you, or a group you belong to, must be a member of that library. Even though you are a member of a Library, you won't be able to access or perform any functions in the library until security permissions have been assigned.
Library Managers and the System Administrator can access every document regardless of their security permissions.
When setting security permissions for a library, folder or document, you will be presented with a list of Library Members - both Groups and Users. For each Group or User, you would like to assign security permissions to, you will need to choose the level of access required
Whenever a folder or document is saved or created it will automatically inherit these security permissions from its Parent folder. If required, these inherited security permissions can be removed, and new security permissions assigned.
